About This Show

In Equus, Alan Strang, a stable boy commits a brutal crime and is sent for psychiatric evaluation under the care of Dr. Martin Dysart. Over time and after much defiance and resistance, Dysart uncovers the boy’s secrets and comes to understand the complexity of his motivations – a horrifying mix of obsession, myth, paganism, sex, and religion. The psychiatrist is then faced with a new dilemma — to ‘cure’ the boy, he must strip him of the kind of devotion and passion that he himself feels is so tragically missing from his own life. How is that a cure? How can he, in good conscience, cause the boy to become a sterile, empty vessel like himself?
