Women Unchained

In light of the FBI investigation into rabbis here in Rockland county allegedly involved in torturing men who are withholding a get from their wives, our panel discussion will include agunah activists and experts. They will discuss the problem and update the audience on what advances have been made. The film documents the stories of women who have been modern day “agunot” women held captive by husbands who refuse to grant them a Jewish divorce. Women Unchained features emotionally charged profiles and illuminating interviews with leading agunah-rights advocates, rabbis, and experts; fascinating history and archival footage depicting the evolution of women’s rights; details of outrageous payoffs and outlandish schemes involving brute force to win freedom, and a revealing look at protective strategies, including pre-nuptial agreements to prevent “get” refusal.
