About This Show

EXPORT QUALITY is an original play by three Filipina-American playwrights: Carolyn Antonio, Erica Miguel, and Dorotea Mendoza. Directed by Jesca Prudencio, EXPORT QUALITY examines violence against women, gender inequality, and the impact of colonialism on women in the global south. The play explores these themes through the stories of women from the Philippines who’ve been trafficked into the U.S. through the mail-order bride industry.
Comprised of four monologues and choreography inspired by Tinikling, a folk dance from the Leyte region, EXPORT QUALITY is based on true stories and sex trafficking cases that the playwrights encountered as part of their advocacy work within the Filipino community in the U.S. The play explores the disparities experienced by these women through their specific journeys, their sacrifices, decisions, and the steps they take to reconcile with their truths.
