About the Show
On June 2, 2023, we are presenting New York City’s first ever Crankie Festival.
What’s a “crankie,” you ask? This “moving panorama”—a long, illustrated scroll cranked by hand—is the 19th-century precursor to modern TV. This moving box of stories uses lights, shadow puppetry, photographs, and drawings made by hand to tell its story.
That’s not all—expect it to be accompanied by a soundtrack of LIVE music!
