About This Show

A true opera show, all repetoire is taken from the standard Opera Literature including Carmen, Don Giovanni, Rigletto, and Rakes Progress among others. The artists weave in and out of audition settings with narrative sections which shed light on the artists’ state of mind before auditions. The artists are also heard in highlights of casting possibilities as they blend their voices in ensembles from Arabella, Les Contes D’Hoffmann and Der Rosenkavalier.

However, this show is not just for opera lovers. In keeping with Metro Opera Project’s mission to create programs focused on bringing the sound of classically trained voice to the masses in an accessible, friendly construct, This Ain’t No Day Job takes a whimsical look at the pressures, obstacles, and joys of pursuing an opera career while making a living in New York City.

It tells the story about what all those hundreds of singers who are employed as waitresses, receptionists, bookkeepers, web designers, managers, maitre d’s, etc., etc., do when they aren’t working the
infamous day job.
