The Big Voice: God or Merman?

Two special performances of The Big Voice: God or Merman?, the award-winning new musical from Jim Brochu and Steve Schalchlin, the creative team of the Off Broadway hit The Last Session, will be performed at Dodger Stages. The public is invited to attend.

Starring the authors, faith meets show biz in this hysterically funny “solo for two” about two gay men–a Catholic from Brooklyn (Brochu) and a Baptist from Texas (Schalchlin) who pursue religion, discover theatre, fall in love, fall apart, put their lives back together and sing all about it! Brochu believed he was destined to be the first Brooklyn born pope until at age 13, his father introduced him to his friend Ethel Merman and his life changed forever. Church for some is the temple of Musical Theatre.

The show, directed by Anthony Barnao and produced by Wetrock Entertainment (Paul Kreppel and Murphy Cross) was one of last year’s stand out shows at the first New York Musical Festival (NYMF) where it played to six sold out houses at the Belt Theatre. The show was nominated for the L.A. Ovation Award as Best Musical and won the L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Score. It also received two GLAAD Media Award nominations as Best Theatre Production both in New York and Los Angeles.

An Off Broadway run is planned for the Spring.
