A concert of New York and world premieres, with choreography by Patricia Beaman, Sarah Edgar, Austin McCormick, Seth Williams and CAtherine Turocy, Points of Departure features the Baroque form of dance in a 21st century way. In Catherine Turocy’s “Caprice,” the dancers apply contemporary improvisation techniques to 18th century choreography. In “Accumulating Venus,” Patricia Beaman thrusts the archetype of the femme fatale – Venus, for example – into the 21st century. “Point of Departure” choreographer Seth Williams jumps centuries by manipulating phrases from the Baroque ballet to a score by Daniel Becker, who uses period instruments for his contemporary music.
