Brooklyn-based free-bop jazz drummer and composer Pheeroan akLaff’s performances conjoin melodic patterns, rhythmic patterns, counterpoint, chordal voicings, and solo and group improvisation with the intent to arrive at a liberating place – be it harmonious or cacophonous. akLaff presents new compositions exploring international grooves and sensibilities for a drum, bass, piano and voice quintet.
