Yokastas

La MaMa presents the return engagement of Yokastas, written by Richard Schechner and Saviana Stanescu, and directed by Schechner. The piece offers theatregoers four Yokastas, each representing distinct parts of her life and different approaches to her experiences. Audiences see Yokasta as a pre-teen, a young woman, a happily married woman, and an older woman who intelligently recollects all aspects of her life. There is Yokasta the child, Yokasta the new queen, Yokasta unhappily married to Laius, Yokasta living the good life, Yokasta in love, Yokasta under the stress of carrying inside her the secret of knowing who her new young husband, King Oedipus, really is, and Yokasta the talk-show circuit entertainer.
