Uppa Creek is Keli’s Garrett’s new play based on the art of Kara E. Walker, the young celebrated silhouette artist whose ribald and unflinching depiction of slaves and white masters have been exciting and vexing art lovers around the world. In Uppa Creek, a young Negress slave on the Friendly Confines Plantation plots her freedom by attempting to poison her white master. An odd twist of fate intervenes and bedlam ensues as the Negress is hunted and the plantation owner vows to stop at nothing to keep his family’s reputation pure.
The one exception to the performance schedule is the preview peformance on Wednesday, September 12 at 8pm.
The opening night gala benefit is on September 15 and tickets are $25.
