New York City
When a wave carries a map of the Solar System ashore, a young man with naturally blue hair and an enormous heart learns that the universe is bigger than his silent, protective mother would like him to believe. Joined by a chorus of storytellers including Icarus and Natalie Wood, Ula leaves his home (a lighthouse at the foot of an ocean) and sets off on a magical, musical journey through love, loss, Coca-Cola, and a national blackout.
Ula: a dream play with music, by Daniel Zaitchik, is a musical for both musical theatre lovers and skeptics, as the fable explores the idea of music itself, aware that it can be both an honest tool and merely manipulation. Stephen Brackett directs.
Final performance: December 7, 2024
