About this show

A truly universal gospel and r&b musical filled with optimism, heart and soul... It is the fall of 1969 in Washington, DC. Three African-American women (Cheryl Alexander, Daria Hardeman, Shelley Thomas) reunite to bury their only brother, just killed in Vietnam. Echoing the female lead characters in Chekhov's Three Sisters and set in the midst of a country torn apart, this musical tapestry evokes the rhythms of the 1960s, melding blues, gospel, rhythm and blues, and soul. Debuting in Virginia at MetroStage Three Sistahs was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for Best New Musical and hailed by critics and audiences alike. The Washington Post described it as "a soulful evening of music and drama that will be around for a while and that is good news". It boasts a score that ranges from gospel and soul to rhythm and blues and touches on issues in the African American community in 1969, while alternating serious debate with huge comic moments. "Three Sistahs is universal and relatable no matter what your culture may be...a divine score" (Talking Broadway) Schedule Thursday, Sept 23, 8pm Friday, Sept 24, 8pm Saturday, Sept 25, 1pm Sunday, Sept 26, 1pm and 8pm Wednesday, Sept 29, 8pm Friday, October 1, 4.30pm Appropriate for audiences 9+.
