About This Show

NYTB’s live performance of The Toy Castle is based on the award-winning PBS children’s series which has aired locally on WNYE and WLIW. It has received accolades from publications such as TV Guide which noted that “brightly colored costumes, constant movement and sweet storylines will keep young ones entertained.” Before the performance children in the audience will also be treated to a brief interactive “dance class” so they can dance at their seats during the show. They will also be given a bag of props that they can wave around in time with the characters.

The show is set in a castle where the toys magically come to life “only at night, when your eyes are shut tight.” Young children will be delighted to see favorite classic characters – the beautiful ballerina, handsome soldier, mischievous goblin and a host of other happy toys – in a series of short stories danced by NYTB’s ensemble.

Each story, including “Pied Piper of Glum,” “Same Old Toys” “Night Light,” “Strong Man’s Song” and many more, is fun, imaginative and inspirational. Through ballet and mime, the stories teach children personal and social values such as sharing, caring, self-acceptance, and the importance of forgiveness while nurturing their appreciation for the performing arts.
