About This Show

In 1952, young filmmaker Ferry Tenbroek saw his first work, The Shadow-Pier, a drama about star-crossed lovers, gangsters and violent retribution, seized by the F.B.I. over its supposed anti-American subject matter and possible Communist influence. Fifty years later, this
never-returned film has become a sort of holy grail among conspiracy buffs, as well as acquiring
the moniker of being “cursed” since almost everybody connected with the work has died tragically. All except Ferry, who never made another film and refuses to talk about the subject.

Out of the blue, Ferry is contacted by Cory, a sociopath and former FBI agent with a grudge
against the Bureau, who claims to have the film and offers to sell it back to him. With the aid of
Moira Spelling, an assistant professor of cinema studies, Ferry begins a dangerous game of cat
and mouse. Not only with Cory, but the FBI as well, who still has a deep interest in the matter.
Will the secrets of The Shadow-Pier finally be revealed, or will those trying to unravel a fifty-year-old mystery themselves succumb to the so-called "curse"?

The Shadow-Pier is presented as part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.
