The Roar of the Greasepaint’s allegorical story tells the tale of Sir and Cocky, the principal characters in a traveling band of colorful vagabonds. Its tale about the relationship between the haves and have-nots of this world illustrates how “power over” versus “power to” is prevalent in every society. It also explores how great wealth and dire poverty–and the attitudes that go along with them–exist simultaneously in most countries in the world, including the US. The story is seen mainly through the eyes of Cocky and shows his fortitude against adversity and his plucky but malleable personality. Some have compared it somewhat to a musical version of Waiting for Godot.
