The words of Bernard Malamud come to life when The Northwoods Ramah Theater brings to the stage his celebrated story The Jewbird, in which a wayward bird disturbs the lives of an assimilated Brooklyn family. Starring Franny Silverman, Matt Walters, Shawn Shafner, and Jon Adam Ross, the show is directed by Annie Levy. The Northwoods Ramah Theatre, the professional theater company of Camp Ramah in Wisconsin, is an ensemble group dedicated to creating new work that reflects the Jewish experience. Each performance piece is developed through an open-rehearsal process aimed at a wide audience of children and adults. By opening up the creative process to the audience, the NRT inspires the potential for a deeper connection to the work. Culling material from folklore, poetry, contemporary literature and ancient texts, all sources are treated as sacred, and by working them into the script, the NRT aims to magnify the connection between the story and Jewish teaching. The Northwoods Ramah Theater is recognized as a beacon for creative productivity in the Jewish performing arts. The cutting-edge programming of Camp Ramah in Wisconsin is successfully connecting energized and committed youth to Jewish culture and the arts.
