Three generations of a gay family deal with life’s trials and tribulations in The Family. Living under the same roof in Staten Island is Mother Luisa, the matriarchal dyke grandmother; her son Brandy, a doting house-husband; his wife Jacqueline, a construction worker; and their three children. Oldest daughter Jacqueline Jr. is very butch. Her best friend is a man in disguise, in love with a gorgeous but conceited transsexual. Then there’s youngest daughter Stella, who falls in love with a male friend from college. A rash of gay bashing on the Island provides further complications (as if there weren’t enough already!) The play is written and directed by Denise Coles.
