About This Show

The Boxer’s Son is Mario Golden’s latest play. It tells the story of Mayito, an innocent young boy growing up in Mexico City during the 1970’s amidst family dysfunction and political violence. Mayito longs to meet his father, who abandoned him before he was born. His family conceals his father’s identity, instead spinning a web of lies that ultimately destroy the family. The purpose of this play is to denounce the violence that children are subjected to worldwide as a result of globalization; specifically, to show how this violence filters into the family, where it intensifies through traditionally accepted roles.
