In his play Taking Over, Hip-Hop Theater Festival founder and award-winning actor Danny Hoch takes on gentrification and affordable housing through nine expertly performed roles. As a native New Yorker, Hoch is indeed an expert as he has witnessed the many colors, complexities and contradictions that reflect gentrification right on his own block. Yielding top-notch reviews from its run at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre, HHTF and the Public Theater have teamed up with cultural institutions across the city, to bring this important work to neighborhoods free of charge, prior to the shows full production at the Public Theater this upcoming November.
