John Steppling’s Standard of the Breed centers on 24 hours in the life of Jack, a black-jack dealer and enthusiastic breeder of English Mastiffs. When Cassie, an unemployed 23 year old, shows up to buy a puppy, Jack thinks nothing of it until she mentions that she’s decided to leave her middle aged husband in hopes of finding greener pastures. The plot is complicated by the arrivals of two of Jack’s casino co-workers (who come to tell him they’ve all been laid off) and Cassie’s husband.
There is no performance on Sunday, June 9.
