Red & Tan Line, written by Peter Mercurio and directed by Chuck Blasius, is a comedy about two gay brothers in New York City–one living on the East Side, the other on the West Side–one looking for Mr. Right, one looking for Mr. Right Now–as they compete to find the right partner in
a sibling rivalry that takes them through a string of comical dates, fix-ups, and flings.

In the play, Tom and Rick embark on a series of encounters that comprises a virtual “who’s who” and “who’s doing who” book of gay dating. The brothers go out with friends of friends, coworkers and complete strangers–including everyone from guys who are still in the closet, to out-and-proud gay activists. They go out with guys they meet in bars, in chat rooms and through personal ads. They go out with guys who have off-the-wall sexual fetishes, unusually shaped genitals, even bizarre fixations with famous lines from movies. Their dating venues take them through such popular meeting places as coffee houses, restaurants, gay bowling nights and gay country-western dance clubs. Along the way, they return sporadically to their family’s home in the suburbs via New Jersey public transit’s “Red and Tan Line”–where they spar with each other during the holidays and compare notes on their progress.
