Pull, the latest play by Robert Lesser, is a modern day crucifixion story set in the racially and politically charged atmosphere of 1960s Chicago. Concentrating on the phenomenon of “blockbusting” – a real estate scheme that derived profits from creating racist paranoia that led to “white-flight” from the city to the suburbs and the susequent financial exploitation of the black families who were recruited to move into the vacated neighborhoods. Pull is a powerful play that explores the darker side of humans dealing with poverty, hard labor, violence and xenophobia.
