In Props, a new play by Michael Roderick, directed by Moira K. Costigan, a properties artist recently abandoned by his girlfriend sets out to fashion his ideal woman, a preoccupation that at once gives his life new meaning and satisfies his artistry. Just as he succeeds in bringing his mannequin “to life” his girlfriend reappears, now demanding that they get back together. His indifference, however, prompts her to reveal a shocking secret that is intended to not only destroy the artist’s esteem for his creation, but the artist too in the process. Suddenly the line between what is real and what is not begins to obscure not only for the artist, but also for the audience.
