About This Show

Napkin Plays is a festival of world premieres by Arthur Kopit, Tina Howe, Lee Blessing, Dan O’Brien, Glen Berger, Ethan Youngerman, and Rachel Axler. A woman gets stood up by “the one,” and then waits for him at the bar for days. A giant sells his body to a freak-show owner but gets cold feet. A young man falls in love. Another tries to break up the perfect couple. A broken couple tries to figure out what went wrong. Inspired by the legend of Joe Papp convincing Samuel Beckett to write him a world premiere on a napkin at a bar, Brooklyn Rep brings together some of New York’s finest playwrights for a night of plays–some of which fit on a napkin, some of which fill an hour.
