Mud

Mud follows the struggle of an impoverished and poorly educated, but driven young woman; who yearns for a better life filled with self-worth, understanding and love. Mae was mentally abandoned by her father as a child. Mae’s father brought home a playmate for her to occupy her time, because he had not the patience to deal with her. Mud begins years later with Mae and her childhood companion, Lloyd, in their mid-twenties. They have created a classic love-hate relationship. They are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Lloyd is motivated on impulse and his animal instinct; while Mae frustratingly stews in her own inarticulate aspirations to better herself and her existence. The play poses questions about the perceptions of human decency, the relationships between men and women and the power of self-determination; among other related issues. FES Productions presents this play written by Maria Irene Fornes, and directed by Vernice Miller.
