Caraid O’Brien’s adaptation of Sholem Asch’s Yiddish play Motke Thief is a psychological portrait of a criminal that begins with the beating of an impoverished 12-year-old boy, follows him as he runs away to the circus, murders a romantic rival and becomes one of the leading pimps of the Jewish ghetto. Motke Thief is directed by Aaron Beall in its first ever production in English.
