About This Show

As part of their Greek Laboratory, Target Margin Theater (TMT) invited a collection of artists to create works in response to Hellenic drama, poetry and philosophy. Meze offers some short pieces to whet your appetite:

“Over There”
A toy theater after Herodotus. Created by Kathleen Kennedy Tobin.

“Dirge”
Adapted for the stage from Pindaric funeral ode fragments and set to original music with movement, “Dirge” is a daughter’s lament for her father. The girl encounters a group of mourners who help her reach ecstatic grief. Directed by Alexis Poledouris, songs by Claire Brownell. With Caroline Tama.

“Beautiful Pooper Scooper”
A modern meditation on a conversation between Socrates and Arstippus as reported by Xenophon. Created by Ásta Bennie Hostetter, set design by Meredith Ries.

“The Barbie-Steia: Curse of the House of Malibu”
Barbie and friends meet Aeschylus’ Oresteia in a brief but epic study in Classic Plastic. Created by Michael Levinton and Mallery MacKay-Brook. With Diana Konopka.
