William Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost is directed by Eleanor Holdridge. The King of Navarre and his three young friends pledge to deny themselves the company of women in order to devote themselves to study and fasting: a vow they are determined to keep until the arrival of the daughter of the King of France (coincidentally travelling with three young friends of her own). Defying many of the logical twists and outcomes of the genre, Shakespeare’s witty, romantic comedy is as unconventional and surprising today as it was four hundred years ago.
