About This Show

Spanish Harlem-born Eddie Palmieri returns to Aaron Davis Hall for a special concert with La Perfecta II and the Spanish Harlem Orchestra. Palmieri founded the La Perfecta group in the 1960’s with the trademarked sound of the dynamic use of the flute and trombones, instead of the more common trumpet and saxophone sound used by bandleaders such as Tito Puente during the period. In ADH’s Latino New York, Palmieri recreates this award-winning sound and lets a new generation appreciate the irresistibility of the music. Joining Palmieri and La Perfecta II on this evening is the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, led by acclaimed pianist and arranger Oscar Hernandez. Through their repertoire, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra celebrates the indelible contributions of New York’s Spanish Harlem, the birthplace for Salsa and countless other variants that have merged from Afro-Cuban tradition.
