About This Show

Lasanta plays with the visual storytelling surrounding the aura, sensuality, duplicity, artifice, and mystery of women through the idea of altered states. With text inspired by hardboiled crime writers like Raymond Chandler, Mexican song lyrics and the live musical accompaniment of Lady Lucille, Lasanta explores the fantasy and fallout of kaleidoscoped love.

Visually, the production uses the earliest conventions of theatre to achieve the techniques of cinema. Curtains, lighting, puppets, tableaux-vivant, scrims, hand cranked mechanisms and double cast actors create deep focus, shutters and jump cuts, while stylized choreography and movement feel like camera pans and zooms. Like all of SINTROCA’s shows, Lasanta mixes the bawdy language of a vaudeville talent show with contemporary multi-media creating a devilish theatrical cocktail.
