About This Show

This Tony-award winning musical is adapted from Manuel Puig’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name, and features a libretto by Terrence McNally, with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb.

Set behind the acrid, blistering walls of an Argentine prison, Kiss of the Spiderwoman is an immensely passionate look at the ways human beings respond and exist in the face of monumental tragedy and oppression. Through the delphian eyes and exciting songs of Aurora, a screen seductress from the 1940’s, we experience a complex relationship between the gay window-dresser Molina and rugged revolutionary Valentín, two of the prison’s detainees. They subsist through myriad emotions, experiencing the effects and consequences of undying love, loyalty, deception, infatuation, and sacrifice. The ability to overcome oppression and the ways in which humanity struggles to escape unhappiness are two of the major themes which make up the epic sweep that is the evening’s entertainment.
