About This Show

Ridge Theater collaborates with playwright Mac Wellman and composer Julia Wolfe in Jennie Richee (or Eating Jalooka Fruit Before It?s Ripe), a new multimedia work inspired by the writings and artwork of American artist Henry Darger–a hospital maintenance worker who wrote a sprawling 15,000 page narrative, complete with lush, darkly charming illustrations. Perhaps the longest piece of fiction ever written by an individual, Darger’s mystifying work depicts the adventures of the Vivian Girls, seven hermaphrodites of angellic beauty and flawless piety who liberate children by leading them in battle agains the evel Glandelinian nation.
