About This Show

Horizon Productions presents Invisible Child, written by and starring Lisa Barri with Emily Bagan, Ara Glenn-Johanson, Richard Bull, and Kiera O’Neil. Directed by Don Johanson.

Invisible Child is an exciting, imaginative and very contemporary one-woman play with dance (a Dance/Play) ,written and performed by playwright Lisa Barri, a long-standing actress in the New York Theater community. The play tells the story of Ginger, a woman who wants so desperately to please her mother and the outside world that she loses herself in the process. Her story is told through a series of monologues in which a variety of characters emerge. Each character has a different effect on Ginger’s life so that through the course of the play it becomes clear why she is so lost. Due to sly manipulations, verbal bashing, physical attacks and lack of acceptance – all by her mother- Ginger lives her life to please everyone but herself. To please her mother she becomes a prosecutor, leaving behind the only connection to Self that she knows- her love of painting. She has deluded herself into thinking that through the legal system she will be able to help people, but because she does her job so well she causes a woman to be sentenced to death row. She had never intended for anything like that to happen and in a moment of epiphany she realizes that she can no longer live the life she’s living. She discovers that she cannot get the love or acceptance she desires from pleasing another person and becomes determined to follow her own dreams.
