About This Show

Howard Fishman’s dark musical theater work we are destroyed is a nonlinear meditation on the Donner Party, an archetypal chapter in the American Story. A work-in-progress, Fishman’s musical inquiry into the tragedy incorporates original music, songs, text, light and dialogue to explore such universal themes of exploration and self-determination. Excerpts from the piece were first performed as part of the NEW WORKS NOW! Festival at The Public Theater. Expanded versions have subsequently been presented at The Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago and at The Pasadena Playhouse in California, as part of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab West, and at Joe’s Pub in NYC. It was last presented, in workshop format, at the GALAPAGOS ART SPACE in December of 2008, as part of Fishman’s city-wide 10th Anniversary celebration.
