Returning home to mourn his father’s death, Hamlet finds his crown stolen, his mother in bed with his uncle, his own lover denied him, and his father’s ghost writhing in hellish agony. Who wouldn’t go a little mad? Hamlet boldly confronts his uncle/father and aunt/mother in a violent and often bloody series of events that will bring him face to face with the madness of life, love and death.
Reduxion Theatre Company’s audience is directly engaged as it leave its lights up just enough to allow its actors to communicate as Shakespeare’s actors did over 400 years ago — by speaking to the audience! The company of 7 actors playing 23 roles is youthful yet seasoned with ages from 25 to 35 and backgrounds ranging from Off-Broadway to the U.K. The beautifully functional costumes highlight the actor’s craft as they shift seamlessly from one character to another even as the streamlined set directs attention where it is needed most, to the actors.
