Encounters

Through the rigor and technical expertise of ballet, Cherylyn Lavagnino’s choreography physically illustrates the ever-shifting feelings humans experience through interaction with one another. By confronting the physical limitations of dancing en pointe rather than transcending them, pointe work becomes a tool for her to express more remote and extreme aspects of the human condition, such as aggression, fragility, and struggle. Encounters comes from biography: emotional vulnerability is both the impetus and the goal.
