TSI presents the New York Premiere of Eight Ways to Meet Your Neighbor, written and directed by William Kevin McCauley.
“The Theatre-Studio Inc., a longtime producer of short plays that has given many a new writer a boost, is introducing its charming new space with this highly stylized, attractively absurd series of skits.”
Michael Lazan, Backstage
When a new couple moves in next door, appearances are often deceiving and the result is anything but encouraging in this ferocious, breakneck comedy of manners. The play hurtles through eight introductions and interactions between two couples meeting for the first time. Simple conversations are fraught with destructive potential, and personalities and neuroses vary wildly from one worst-case scenario to the next. As the characters navigate the minefield of social rituals, their primitive natures explode and the veneer of civilized behavior is shattered. Sometimes instead of “keeping up with the Joneses” — we may just want to get away from them.
WINNER OF THE LA WEEKLY BEST COMEDY ENSEMBLE
“…McCauley flawlessly directs a talented cast, confronting the audience with a series of vignettes encapsulating the hysterical and frighteningly accurate behaviors of neighbors meeting for the first time … a choreography of slapstick compression that shows social awkwardness at its funniest … as discomforting as it is funny …” — LA Weekly
“… (an) effectively paranoiac pastiche about the humor and horror
of human interaction … surprisingly profound ….” — Los Angeles Times
