Dissenters

From Seattle to New York, the story told in song of a dozen idealistic Americans who meet and clash at a “Festival of Resistance.”

These days, globalization protests are headline news — but it’s rare to
see the protests and the issues dramatized and set to music. Dissenters portrays the youthful idealism and passion of the WTO street protests that shook Seattle in 1999, as seen through the eyes of an “EarthFirster,” an Indonesian sweatshop worker, an unemployed steelworker, and a wealthy New York fashion industry executive.

The show was written by Seattlite Gregory Nissen, who based his
story on his experiences in the streets of Seattle that week in 1999. In
its portrayal of non-violent civil disobedience, Dissenters is a festive
alternative to the conventional media coverage of protests, as well as a
comical take on civil liberties issues that have recently become important
