The Degenerate Lab includes three productions, each for 5-6 performances, in repertory over three weeks in the Doxsee, and three 1-night events (talks, installations and performances). In each event a different artist creates their own reflection on Degenerate Art. An audience member who comes to everything will take an artistic journey greater than the sum of its parts. Labs are guided by lead artists who could be from any discipline.
This year, associate artistic director Adam M. Kassim creates Faggot/Terrorist, inspired by the work of David Wojnarowicz; director Malena Dayen interprets Valerie Solanas’s underground classic Up Your Ass; and TMT associate artist Anthony Vaughn Merchant leads Next Up, a piece inspired by and featuring new voices led by the counterculture of punk. One-time music and artistic events enrich the program even more, including personalized tarot card musical performances by flutist Emily Duncan, Cabaret Verboten hosted by Viva Lamore, and a TMT Community Café for Degenerates featuring a reading of The Bus Stop by Gao Xingjian.
