About This Show

The Juggernaut Theatre Company presents the English language US premier of Criminal, written by Javier Daulte, translated by Rodrigo Cameron and directed by Gwynn MacDonald.

Subtitled “A Short Tragedy about a Counter-Transferential Transference,” the play dramatizes the Argentinean passion for psychotherapy chronicled last year in the NPR feature “Examining Argentina’s Obsession with Therapy” (All Things Considered; Dec 21 2002).

With the highest ratio of analyst to citizen anywhere in the world, Argentina is the setting of this revenge play where psychoanalysts and their patients play a perverse game of hide-and-seek in the labyrinth of their relationships and hang ups. Tables are turned and shrinks are shrunk–hoisted by their own transference. This fast paced study on the politics of therapy reminds us that sometimes the only way to terminate psychoanalysis can be Criminal.
