Celebrate the holidays like you never have before: with other people’s
amazing old Kodachrome slides of their best New Year’s Eves, Halloweens,
Thanksgivings, and of course, Christmas. Such is the premise of Charles Phoenix’s God Bless Americana: The Retro Holiday Slide Show.
See how people decorated, dressed up, dined & drank their way through the
holidays in the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Enjoy Palm Springs, Las Vegas and
Hollywood Boulevard decked out for the holidays. Meet Santa at Disneyland and Santa’s Village, then sit on his lap at Bullock’s Westwood. Meet the strangest Santas, see who got the best toys on Christmas morning, get tied up at a Christmas bondage party and see the best toilet paper Christmas tree ever!
California native Charles Phoenix has been collecting vintage amateur family
slides for over 10 years. His archive now numbers more than 350,000 images. He is the author of numerous retro books on Southern California, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and the USA. Phoenix first started doing informal screenings of slides for his friends in his own living room. The popularity of the screenings led to his first public performance in 1998 at the California Map & Travel Center. His New York Premiere, Charles Phoenix’s God Bless Americana: The Retro Vacation Slide Show Tour of the USA, in August 2003 at the New York International Fringe Festival won an Overall Excellence Award for “Unique Theatrical Experience.”
