If the late astronomer and science enthusiast Carl Sagan were alive today, in his twenties, and making music in a basement in Brooklyn, it would probably sound very much like Champ: A Space Opera. This new multi-media show is created and performed by the Brooklyn-based rock band Champollion in collaboration with the artist collective The Mediumship. A genre-defying spectacle inspired by the curiosities of Carl Sagan, the show tells a taught, psychological sci-fi tale through a combination of rock music, found audio, video projections and dance. Champ: A Space Opera reflects on community, isolation, faith and obsession and challenges its audience to think outside the box and step outside the ship.
Champ: A Space Opera is presented as part of the 2007 New York International Fringe Festival.
