About This Show

Wilford Leach’s ETC Company of La MaMa and La MaMa’s Great Jones Repertory Company presents Carmilla, a vampire tale in chamber opera form. Written by the late Wilford Leach, the piece features music by Ben Johnson and projections by Jack Coddington. Adapted from the 1872 novella by J.S. LeFanu, Leach’s Carmilla was an important and ground-breaking work on many levels when originated at La MaMa in the 1970. It was the first stage production of any kind that used dance, music, film and video in its conception. The original musical director, Zizi Mueller, will once again provide musical direction and Ellen Stewart will provide stage direction for this important work.

Wallace Shawn reprises his performance of The Mountebank Saturday, April 26. This is the role Shawn played in the opera’s 1976 revival.
