Book of Songs

Book of Songs is Chinese Theatre Works’ newest shadow puppet production, blending ancient and contemporary puppetry techniques and classical Kun Opera performance. Based on poems from the earliest known literary anthology, The Book of Songs, the production explores the tensions between ancient and modern, war and peace, and sacred and profane. A variety of puppetry techniques — traditional shadow, overhead projection, hand puppets, masks, and toy theater — are utilized in additoin to live singing and musical accompaniment.
