About This Show

Rebecca Gilman’s Blue Surge offers a penetrating look at class struggle and at women’s issues. This lean play of two acts and five actors moves quickly and leaves no winners in the reality of life. Two undercover cops try to shut down a massage parlor that’s actually a house of prostitution. Their effort fails, but each becomes involved with a hooker. Doug falls for Heather mainly for a good time. Curt likes to talk with young Sandy and wants to help her find a more respectable job. Both relationships
evolve in unexpected yet plausible ways. A complication for Curt is that
he’s engaged to Beth, an artist. Curt finds an unlikely kindred spirit in Sandy and begins a relationship with her that puts everything he’s worked for; his career, friendships and engagement to fiancée at risk. Curt however sees a future with Sandy and an escape from his troubling past. As the two of them chase the American dream, they must learn a skill that is foreign to them
both; they must learn to hope.
