About This Show

In the works of Neodanza, the Venezuelan dance company, led by Ines Rojas, anguish, violence and disorder fuse with eroticism, dreams and mysticism in edgy, postmodernist dance works. The company returns to La MaMa after a five-year absence with Bistoury Project, choreographed by Cuban born Alexey Taran. In it, a sextet of ballet dancers perform expressions of motion based on gestural scenes, breaking the limits of pure physical motion and exploring the aesthetics of provocation and aggression and the beauty of the grotesque. Improvisation by the musicians creates an unusual ambience and breaks the musical mold of ballet.
