About the Show

Between 5 Stories is the culmination of the body of work amassed by the Sarah Lawrence College Summer Theatre Collective during the summer of 2003. These five pieces, set in the same Manhattan apartment building, span seventy years and explore themes of isolation, sanity, and the survival of love. The plays include:

When She Falls by Eric Palm, directed by Adrienne Dawes.
A mother recounts stories of how her family found fulfillment in their
hectic lives, as her youngest daugther struggles to find hope in a cynical
world.

The Woman in 12A by Jessi Barkl, directed by Mi-Sun Choi.
A phobic, lonely woman looks for love, but gets a bath instead.

A Boy and His Stove by Daniel Kelley, directed by Nehemiah Luckett.
A boy tries to communicate with his best friend, but he doesn’t realize that
it’s a stove.

Staring Contest by Shane Tilston, directed by Jen Steiner.
An artist and his girlfriend encounter a former tenant who teaches them
that, in a relationship, some roads, whether more or less travelled, may
need to be taken alone.

Love and Happiness by Adrienne Dawes, directed by Adriana Baer.
Harold wakes at 3am to find his wife Dottie celebrating the death of Harold’s best friend who passed away earlier that evening. Confronted with the ghosts of the past, Harold must decide if he will mourn the loss of his best friend or prove his love for a wife he betrayed.
