Performing Arts Society of Kingsborough Community College presents Bare Stages II with four days of eight plays performing in rep.
GROUP I: NOT SO GRIMM
Tim Kelly’s Happily Never After (directed by Lea Steinwurzel): A series of vignettes about what happens after the last page of most children’s stories.
Jerry Chase’s Cinderella Wore Combat Boots (directed by Sara Afridonidz): An edgy, improv-oriented retelling of the bashful beauty, her sinister siblings, and that princely charmer who steps into her life and her shoes.
GROUP II: NOTORIETY
D.M. Bocaz-Larson’s Nobody Famous (directed by Dena Mizrahi): A
clairvoyant, a star-struck girl and her wacky friends are the players in
this “so you wanna be famous” story.
Tim Kelly’s Under Jekyll’s Hyde (directed by Brian Sotomayor): Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous doctor of dual identities gets a vaudeville-style retelling in this fast paced but faithful farce.
GROUP III: LAUGHTER AMERICANA
Lanford Wilson’s Ludlow Fair (directed by Sheldon I. Aptekar): The journies of two modern maidens and their individual dysfunctions about life and love is viewed.
James McClure’s Lone Star (directed by Sheldon I. Aptekar): Three good ole’ boys shot the breeze about lost dreams, Vietnam, and beer.
David Ives’ Time Flies (directed by Sheldon I. Aptekar): A romance of only a few hours is a lifetime when you are a pair of flies!
GROUP IV: STAND-UP AND SPEAK-OUT
The Society will also take this opportunity to open the new Student’s Experimental Theater with the new play St. Anarchy written and directed by George Kokkinos. This game of question and answer between two friends gets heavy on this particularly sleepy Sunday morning.
