Lincoln Center’s acclaimed series American Songbook launches its
9th season of celebrating the best of popular American songwriting with two nights featuring one of the world’s most notable vocal talents, Audra McDonald. The four-time Tony Award winning singer is renowned for her exquisite handling of both classical and Broadway songs. She crosses genres, bringing her vocal mastery and skill as a nuanced storyteller to interpret works by some of today’s top contemporary and pop songwriters, including works from her new album Build a Bridge by such artists as Neil Young, Elvis Costello, Nellie McKay, Rufus Wainwright, Laura Nyro, and John Mayer, as well as selections by theatre composer Adam Guettel (The Light in the Piazza) and Ricky Ian Gordon.
