As You Like It

It’s Shakespeare with mini-skirts, go-go boots and Frisbees as Shakespeare at Love Creek presents William Shakespeare’s As You Like It, his classic comedy of love and mistaken identity, to which has been added the flavor of swinging 1960s. There’s this chick Rosalind, who falls for this groovy young man named Orlando. However, Orlando’s uptight establishment brother, Oliver, wants to kill him (it’s a family thing), so Orlando and his faithful companion Adam split the scene and head for this really wild place called the Forest of Arden, where “the man’s” rules don’t apply. Arden’s a spot where Rosalind and her dearest chum Celia are also heading after being kicked out by Celia’s pop, Duke Frederick. Duke Frederick, the ruler of the roost, already threw out Rosalind’s father Duke Senior, who’s also somewhere in Arden. As these seekers move through the Forest, they encounter a lonely goatherd, wild animals, poetry from the soul, gender disguises (this was the age of experimentation) and a band of merry men – all leading to the great love-in at the end where all’s well that ends well – wait, that’s another play.
